Wow Blizzard Restarts Development

Blizzard spokesman Shon Damron said, “We’ve always had a highly iterative

development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception. We’ve come to a point

where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game. We’re

using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects

while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes.

Note that we haven’t announced any dates for the MMO.”

Blizzard has reduced the size of the Titan development team from 100 to 30 as it

heads back to the drawing board for some large changes to the game.

Also, Mike Morhaime, the head of Blizzard ( a division of Activision Blizzard), told

employees a few days ago that Blizzard is very “iterative” in how it creates games

and it never hesitates to do the right thing when it comes to developing games.

Recently, Blizzard reviewed Titan and concluded it needed big design and technology

changes to meet the bar for quality. As the core team figures out what to do,

Blizzard is shifting developers to work on World of Warcraft, Blizzard All-Stars, the

Diablo III expansion, cinematics and Battle.net.

While there was a rumoured release date of 2014 this reset will delay the release to

at least 2016…likely longer knowing Blizzard’s penchant for getting things right

and even cancelling projects out right if they feel to reach their standards.
